Safety
Safety is an important part of freerunning. It can be a physically demanding sport, which is why we consider it essential to properly teach safety during our training sessions. We approach safety in two main ways:
- Safety within movements
- Safety within the environment
Safety within movements is integrated into how we teach techniques. Safety within the environment is addressed through the following aspects:
1. The participant
Safety starts with the participant.
As described earlier in the training section, participants learn from the beginning how to land, fall, and roll correctly.
However, safety is more than just technique.
We also teach participants to:
- Be aware of their surroundings
- Look ahead before making a movement
- Take others into account
- Follow instructions
- Recognize their own limits
Freerunning involves control and responsibility. By developing awareness and discipline, participants learn to move with more confidence and understanding.
2. The trainers
Our trainers actively guide and support participants during training sessions.
This includes:
- Explaining and demonstrating techniques
- Providing individual guidance where needed
- Correcting posture and landings
- Assessing whether a participant is ready for the next step
- Adjusting exercises based on level
Exercises are built up step by step. New techniques are only expanded once the foundation is sufficiently developed.
Trainers also maintain continuous overview of the group to ensure a structured and controlled training environment.
3. The location – Feel Fit Center
Our training sessions take place in the sports facility of the Feel Fit Center in Zierikzee.
The staff at the Feel Fit Center are first aid certified, and the building includes a fully equipped first aid room.
While safety is always taken seriously, it is worth noting that in recent years there have been no serious incidents requiring the use of these facilities.
